Slovenia's .si domain has become the hottest namespace on the internet. Once "SI" became the official US word for super intelligence, buyers registered more than 100,000 .si names in under two weeks. Sellers now ask six and seven figures for the shortest ones. Completed sales remain in five figures, and that gap is the story to watch.
Key points
- About 108,000 .si domains were registered between Sept. 23, 2026, and Oct. 5, 2026, including 23,052 in a single day, after fewer than 2,000 in all of August.
- AI.si is listed at $699,995, roughly 20 times its reported 2025 sale price, and sellers ask $10 million for build.si and $8 million for seed.si.
- Completed sales are climbing toward $20,000: travelagent.si sold for $19,988 and caspian.si for $19,795 in early October, and the AI company Recursive paid $20,000 for Recursive.si.
- The market is building around the demand: Atom has launched weekly .si auctions, and Namecheap and Spaceship are adding .si.
- The trigger is political. A federal order made "SI" the official term, Musk endorsed it and pledged to rename SpaceXAI, and California refused to follow.
What's changing
A run on two letters
Slovenia's registry reported 46,066 new .si domains in September, about 23 times August's level. The total climbed from 198,535 on Sept. 23, 2026, to 306,162 on Oct. 5, 2026, with 23,052 registered in one 24-hour period1. A registry built for a country of two million is straining. Dynadot, the main channel for the early rush, lost its connection to the registry on Oct. 1, 20263.

Other registrars are racing in. OpusDNS added .si on Sept. 23, 2026, Hostinger now ranks it second only to .com, and Namecheap's CEO said on Oct. 5, 2026, that .si would reach Namecheap and Spaceship the next day4.

Prices are rising faster than sales
The asking side has moved dramatically:
- AI.si sold for a reported $34,000 last year. Now it's listed at $699,995.2
- build.si sold for $17,435 in June. Now it's offered at $10 million, and seed.si at $8 million2.
Completed sales are climbing, but toward $20,000, not millions. NameBio records four .si sales between $14,926 and $19,988 from Sept. 30 to Oct. 4, 2026, led by travelagent.si and caspian.si, after otherwise.si sold for $18,888 on Sept. 24, 20262. The selling started early: the morning after the UN speech, investor Kalin Karakehayov reported more than $12,000 in .si sales on Afternic within one minute2.

The sale that matters most is Recursive.si: an AI start-up valued at $4.65 billion paid $20,000 to use its own .si name2. Prices will soon be tested in public: Atom's weekly .si auctions start on Oct. 6, 2026, with up to 100 names per event, and more than half of the names first registered at Dynadot were promptly listed for resale5.

Why now: a name with political backing
President Trump told the UN General Assembly on Sept. 22, 2026, that US documents would say "super intelligence"6, and on Sept. 29, 2026, he ordered the executive branch to replace "AI" with "SI"7. Elon Musk's Oct. 4, 2026, post, "No more AI / SI / It's better", passed 15.4 million views, and Forbes reported his plan to rename SpaceXAI as SpaceXSI8.

California went the other way, ordering its agencies to keep saying "artificial intelligence"9. That split is the main risk to .si values: a term backed by one party can fade as fast as it arrived.
Who is actually buying
Most buyers so far are investors, not builders. Only about 3% of Hostinger's .si registrations are explicitly AI-related, and Domain Name Wire found no start-ups launching on .si10. Of 35 documented .si sales in the first half of the year, only two went to companies using the name themselves2. The rush has also drawn squatters, including 87 brand-plus-"superintelligence" .com names listed at $20,000 each. A claim that insiders were tipped off to buy .si names remains unproven, and the White House denies it7.
We think it is likely, at about 65%, that value concentrates. Short, meaningful .si names that companies want to build on, like Recursive.si, should keep trading in five figures or more, while most of this autumn's speculative registrations lapse at their first renewal. Whether "SI" outlives this administration will set the ceiling.
What to watch
- Atom's first clearing prices. Weekly results will show whether bids come anywhere near six-figure asking prices.
- The first six-figure completed sale. A closed sale above $100,000 would confirm that the asking-price surge is backed by buyers.
- More company renames. Another AI lab adopting "SI" or moving to a .si domain would widen end-user demand.
- Renewal rates in autumn 2027. The first renewal cycle will show how much of this rush was speculation.
